Case Studies

Case Study 1

Client & Location: The Chief of Security for a national Brokerage House and Money Management Firm in the United States with 22 locations.

Composition Objective:  To monitor local managers and brokers responsible for entire financial portfolios of individuals and other entities.

Problem / Obstacle:  Several problems existed leading to the search for a solution.

They are:
I)    Complaints by clients that were sent to the regional headquarters voicing concerns that their transactions were not placed in a timely manner, costing them substantial losses.

II)   Increase in complaints / notices from the legal department questioning trading practices by the local offices.

III)  It had been discovered that multiple local managers were canceling and rescheduling appointments with internal auditors with excuses that their computers with records crashed, the records rooms were being painted, access to records were going through security upgrades, and other legitimate excuses.  The build up of continual excuses prohibiting the auditing of records was the final indication that a problem within all of the branches of the organization existed.

HSS Solution:  A Digital Voice Logger equipped with a relational database with search capabilities to be used to track and identify illicit activities.

Benefit:  The Security Chief was able to collect voice communication evidence to incriminate brokers and managers leading to their termination and an organizational restructure before the Federal Government became involved, saving the company from being closed and the management from going to prison.

   Case Study 2

Client & Location: A telephone company in Central America

Composition Objective:  To monitor employees suspected of reselling of international telecom services to local users while fraudulently billing local individuals and companies for those services.  Fraudulent activity becomes a matter of theft when the services are terminated and payment has been executed after telecom invoicing has been generated without the local individuals and companies being aware that they have been invoiced for the services while the transaction remains untraceable.

Problem / Obstacle:  The telecom security of the phone company has been unable to link paper trails or collect evidence on the subjects under investigation, causing financial damage to those that get billed for fraudulent activity and to the phone company.

HSS Solution:  A Digital Voice Logger equipped with Simultaneous monitoring capabilities.

Benefit:  The internal security had the need to simultaneously record a live call, and play back an archived call at the same time in order to cross reference the illicit activities being conducted and collect evidence.  The suspected employees were held responsible for their actions, fined, and terminated.

Case Study 3

Client & Location: A crime unit that investigates criminal larceny & extortion in Central America.

Composition Objective:  To monitor incoming & outgoing phone communications and gather evidence against a suspected criminal.

Problem / Obstacle:  The subject under investigation was using multiple lines to communicate with, posing the problem of tracking communications on a wide scale that requires multiple phone line logging or multi-channel monitoring.

HSS Solution:  A Digital Voice Logger equipped with CAD or Channel Activity Detection.

Benefit:  The crime unit was able to store all conversations based on the identification features before and during phone line communication.  Features stemming from the triggering of the Digital Voice Logging System include ring detection, off hook detection, voice operation using VOX, contact closure, and other special signaling, enabled the crime unit to gather the evidence they needed.  Subsequently, the crime unit expanded its operations and to date have ordered additional Digital Voice Logging systems for 6 of their live investigations, 5 of which are in use, and 1 used for field training.

Case Study 4

Client & Location: A group of Security Consultants for a government agency in Switzerland.

Composition Objective:  To test telephone logging technology and see if it will capture voice conversations on phones clearly and meet their budget prior to making a purchase.

Problem / Obstacle:  Several other manufacturers supplied the Security Consultants with recording solutions but were not able to meet their budgetary constraints.

HSS Solution:  A 4-channel system at a fraction of the cost helped the Security Consultants become obtain their recording quality at an affordable price.

Benefit:  The Security Consultants were able to collect and store voice communications under their budget constraints and eventually win a bid from the Swiss government for larger channel Digital Voice Logger equipment.  This has been a recurring theme among Security Consultants who purchase a 4 Channel Solution, test it out, and then upgrade to a higher capacity Digital Voice Logging system.
